This past weekend, we visited Tara Firma Farms for their annual Pumpkins on Pikes event. I have to say, it was one of the best Fall/Halloween gatherings I have ever attended. Wide-open farm land with cows, pigs, turkeys, chickens, sheep and more, then add a large open-sided building filled with pumpkins, live music, organic-local food, a corn maze and haystacks…a perfect formula for an autumn saturday afternoon.
She chose her pumpkin, described the scary face she hoped he would achieve, and then they set to work carving their masterpiece.
And then the pike was found, the pumpkin was placed and their work was done until the sun set.
She was most interested in the corn which adorned the maze than the actual game of getting lost. I hope she always finds a fascination with nature’s offerings, great and small.
Hundreds of pumpkins, each carved in their own special way, lit by candles atop pikes scattered through a field ~ magical goodness in every way.
